Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
I administrate a segregated network of around 300 Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems for software development. This includes servers and workstations. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) provides a professionally supported operating system with the software tools needed for our software development.
Pros
- Software installation using package management
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) online support documentation
- Pre-configuring a new installation for DISA STIG compliance
Cons
- Full featured desktop icon support in GNOME is a little broken
- DNF / RPM package dependency error messages, and how to resolve them
- Improvements in how to configure what is and isn't collected by the auditing daemon
- Positive: Ease of renewing subscriptions, and the low cost of subscriptions
- Positive: Providing a standard development environment for developers
- Positive: Providing a standard environment even between major versions
