Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

It runs a significant amount of our Enterprise deliverables, including virtual, containerized, and physical workstations and Servers. We also use many components within it to manage the remainder of our Linux systems. We also use Satellite and AAP, and many of our developers have physical local RHEL workstations.

Pros

  • Security
  • Local development.
  • System stability.

Cons

  • Disconnected and air-gapped services.
  • SELinux policy profile building and management.
  • LEAPP upgrades.
  • Smoother deliveries.
  • Faster time to delivery.
  • Hardware requirement reduction.
It's good; however, with AI advancements, we could probably use some better tools for things like hardening systems more effectively. Compliance and STIG are very important for me, and it would be great if there were more comprehensive off-the-shelf solutions for both automating and maintaining compliance in a more automated way and in ways that are more broadly supported by the actual enterprise.

Do you think Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)'s feature set?

Yes

Did Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) again?

Yes

It's best suited as a lightweight and headless server stack. But it is highly feature diverse, and local containerization is nice with RHEL but probably best within OpenShift Kubernetes clusters. Its integration with a wide array of vendors and applications is very useful. It's less well suited for DNS, and IDM could use some work for better overall integration.
