Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

I'm a senior system administrator. We use RHEL in production critical services for things like database services, confluence, git and many other services. We depend on the great reliability, security, support and availability of RHEL. The one pane of glass management comes in handy. Our scope is for critical enterprise support in a corporate and engineering environment. We have to ensure that our systems are in a good state all the time and RHEL provides many services to ensure that this happens.

Pros

  • Security updates / patches
  • Customer support
  • Stable environment
  • Manageable via a single pane

Cons

  • More support for some packages / newer versions of tools
  • Better support for air gapped systems
  • Better integration with upstream
  • Hardly any downtime
  • Low overhead for maintenance
  • Cost can sometimes be perceived as high
Many years of experience. It just works. I generally always get the response I expect from RHEL systems. If I do not there are ample resources and pointers to how to properly troubleshoot any issues that come up. RHEL is a great OS on both a cli and gui interface.
Direct competitor on an os level. RHEL just has a better feel and usability. I feel more comfortable with it. Both work. But RHEL is my preference

Would you buy Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) again?

Yes

RHEL is to this day still the standard bearer for an enterprise Linux distro. It excels where other Linux enterprise demos are sometimes not quite upvto par. The quick availability and response to critical vulnerabilities is appreciated. New features introduced in major versions keep it up to date. While understandable at times RHEL is a bit behind on packages and versions. This sometimes causes issues with the user base and they have to go somewhere outside of the RHEL environment to accomplish their tasks.
