Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat OpenShift
At my organization, we use Red Hat OpenShift to run our workloads. This is our primary k8s implementation. We use it to address the stability issues that our business had previously. Another important alternative approach is it being cloud agnostic and portal. That way our business is not tied down to one provider.
Pros
- Seamless integration with other products
- Robust and wide variety of features
- The Red Hat OpenShift console.
- secret auto rotation
Cons
- operator maintenance
- complex service mesh solution
- pricing model
- Decreased time to deploy.
- Decrease time to market
- Increase in productivity
There was a complex network requirement to enable SSL through the request all the way to the pod from the external load balancer. Since there were multiple hops, the request had to be re-encrypted. Red Hat OpenShift service mesh helped resolve this problem. Also, the gitops/argo cd has enabled the dev community to deploy faster using the application sets.
it is a multi cluster environment where each stage, dev, QA and prod has their own Red Hat OpenShift app cluster managed by an management cluster. This i see is a good way to manage the multi cluster architecture. Also, provide prod like environment for the development community. Not sure about the edge, but we have a public cloud integration.
