Overall Satisfaction with RPort

RPort is an open-source tool, which is an alternative to TeamViewer. I have used it for managing my Windows servers but it supports Linux and iOS as well. I find it pretty handy for executing predefined scripts as well as basic commands across multiple machines concurrently. It's very straightforward to set up. Developers are still building it and adding new features as we speak. Highly recommended.

Pros

  • Very secure and open source
  • No need for VPN and chained SSH connections
  • Its got a very nicely designed UI
  • Developers are adding a new features

Cons

  • I'd love to be able to save the output of commands/scripts executed
  • "Whats new in this release" feature
  • Execute commands and scripts across multiple clients
  • Grouping servers
  • It speeds up my work
We selected RPort over TeamViewer because it's got features that TeamViewer does not have. It's designed by DevOps and I find it suited pretty well for my day-to-day tasks.

Not being able to see or save the output of your scripts is an issue everyone has when running scripts remotely but there are several solutions you can choose from below is one solution you can use alone with a list of three options for collecting and viewing the output data of your scripts. First you need to decide how you would like to receive and view the output data from your scripts. Below is a list of three options you can choose from, or you can come up with your own for how you would like to receive the output data of your scripts and view the output. Next create a new script with a function that that you can call and feed data into from an external script, so you don't have to write the function into every script you create, and the function needs to include the procedures required to provide the processes listed in the choose you selected from the list below. 1. Setup the script's function to send you an email with the script output in the message body, and setup the subject line to list the date and time the script was run, the name of the script, and the hostname of the machine the script was run on. 2. Setup the script's function to format that outputs and saves the output as an HTML file, then upload the HTML file to an only web server where you can see a list off all your script output and view any one you want as a webpage. 3. Setup the script's function to formats the data then outputs the data to a txt or csv file and then have upload it to cloud storage like Google Drive, OneDrive, iDrive, Mega Drive.......
