Overall Satisfaction with Sage Accounting

I run a one-person Limited Company and I was always concerned about being able to keep on top of my accounts, record keeping, invoicing and so on. This became a real concern when MTD (Making Tax Digital) became a requirement as I had to have software for submitting VAT (Value-added tax) returns, and I didn't know which platform to use. Having read the reviews, I chose Sage Accounting and I've found it to be really easy to use and has helped streamline my processes and takes less time that what I was doing before. I only need the basic Accounting package and it does everything I need. My accountant can access my records, so they like it as well.

Pros

  • Invoicing
  • VAT returns
  • Cash flow
  • Profit and Loss statements
  • Expenses

Cons

  • Reporting - I'd like to be able to compare YTD vs LYTD
  • Reconciling bank accounts - I find this quite tricky
  • It has enabled me to keep track of my sales turnover and profit
  • I like being able to generate interim VAT returns to ensure that my cash flow can cover my liabilities
  • Being able to record my business expenses and mileage is easy
Its easy and intuitive to use
I prefered the functionality and support available with Sage

Using Sage Accounting

1 - As a microbusiness, myself as the Managing Director is responsible for all aspects within Sage
I utilise the online community hub for supporting my use of Sage Accounting and I find this is ideal for most issues that I've ever encountered. If that hasn't worked, then the technical helpdesk has always been excellent in resolving the more complicated issues.
  • Invoicing
  • Suppliers
  • Expenses
  • VAT returns
  • Expenses being calculated for each month end
  • Mileage records being kept every month
  • Completing billing schedules for clients
  • Sharing the software with my accountants so they can dial directly into it
I have been using Sage for a couple of years now and wouldn't want to change to another system. I find it easy to use and at a price that I think is good value.

Evaluating Sage Accounting and Competitors

  • Cloud Solutions
  • Ease of Use
Ultimately, my reason for choosing Sage was its reputation as a reliable software solution for MTD. This was something that was of a major concern to me in order to ensure that our VAT returns were accurate and in line with legislation.

It being so easy to use has been the main reason that I have stayed with the software and have been confident in it enough to stop using my own spreadsheets.
I would have a free trial of some alternative systems

Sage Accounting Implementation

Once I had registered, it was an easy implementation with some online support to guide me through the setup
Change management was minimal
  • Having the confidence to switch to a software solution rather than using the existing manual excel documents for our record keeping

Sage Accounting Training

It was an easy to use and intuitive system to learn myself. I'm in my 50's and picked it up easily

Configuring Sage Accounting

Its a simple to use system that doesn't need lots of configuration, but being able to have the company logo and personalise the emailed invoices were important to me and these are easy to do
Loading good quality logos and using the templates as a guide to the layout of the invoices and then personalise the language within them
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
No - we have not done any custom code

Sage Accounting Support

The online community support is always excellent and when contacting Sage direct they have responded quickly to any query I had
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
No escalation required
Immediate help available
Support understands my problem
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
None
No, I haven't needed it
Yes - Yes it was
I had an issue with my reconciliation and I couldn't resolve it through my own research. Contacting Sage, they were able to talk me through the issue step-by-step

Using Sage Accounting

ProsCons
Like to use
Relatively simple
Easy to use
Technical support not required
Well integrated
Consistent
Quick to learn
Convenient
Feel confident using
Familiar
None
  • Invoicing is really easy
  • Adding cashbook transactions
  • Creating VAT returns
  • Creating more detailed MI reports are not straightforward

Sage Accounting Reliability

I think this would be easy to use across multiple individuals with the relevant access, in order to complete their relevant sections
I find it being cloud based means I can access it anywhere I need to
It always loads quickly and easily wherever the broadband is in place

Integrating Sage Accounting

Intergation to other systems we had was easy

Relationship with Sage

Really easy to deal with initially and that relationship has continued to be a valuable and useful one
I've been delighted with the relationship with Sage after my initial purchase. Great to deal with and a feeling of being looked after as a microbusiness owner.
I went for the most basic package of accounting software with Sage after an initial 3 months free trial
Clear pricing and the ability to upgrade for additional features if needed has been a big plus. I didn't want to be paying for features that I wasn't going to be using
Take advantage of the free-trial offer in order to get familiar with the system and use the community hub guidance to get a deeper understanding of the software during that time.
