Overall Satisfaction with SAP BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation)

BPC is used by our entire organization to do budgeting for the year. A BI team loads the data using custom SSIS components and a custom scripting language created by SAP. It addressed the problem of not being able to properly plan and consolidate financial information from disparate sources across the organization.
  • The Finance team loves it.
  • Custom reporting.
  • Custom SSIS components.
  • Custom scripting language.
  • Ability to properly budget across the organization.
  • Have to train up employees to use it, takes some time.
I have decided to give it a score of 5 out of a total of 10 points because of their custom SSIS and custom scripting languages. Custom SSIS packages and custom scripting languages make it really difficult for a data professional to just pick up the work and get stuff done. It requires a lot of training that is not free. Once you master this, you can certainly do a lot of ETL work.
I am not too familiar with other products in this space. This was picked right before I started working at the organization. I am only in a support role for SAP BPC.
BPC is good for what it says in its name. For planning your business and consolidating financial information and data across various disparate sources in your small or large enterprise. It really is geared towards larger organizations. If you were a small organization, you would be better using more basic software.
