Very easy integration from SAP HANA, not so much from other sources. It is very finicky with data being uploaded and requires meticulous formatting and effort in uploads.

Data integration from other sources into SAP BPC is easy and can be done with no major problem. However, data that is coming from non-SAP sources can sometimes be hit-or-miss on some occasions. Overall, SAP BPC has great use with data integration from other sources that adds additional value to the system.

Because SAP BPC is more now in a continuity mode and its cloud version (SAP Analytic Cloud and Group Reporting) are more sought after products from SAP for these needs. The cloud based offerings provide more robust, flexible and less capital intensive offerings which are highly innovative and easy to scale up and adopt.

The process of getting data linked up is complex at this company. There are a dozen databases with hundreds of currencies and a myriad of other data mismatches. It may not be the fault of SAP BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation), but we have a lot of issues when we go into UAT. Trying to fix the problem in SAP BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation) requires a knowledgeable developer.

I have decided to give it a score of 5 out of a total of 10 points because of their custom SSIS and custom scripting languages. Custom SSIS packages and custom scripting languages make it really difficult for a data professional to just pick up the work and get stuff done. It requires a lot of training that is not free. Once you master this, you can certainly do a lot of ETL work.

First integration is difficult, must need a SAP Business Warehouse specialist to configure data sources from the General Ledger standard extractors and integrations from the ERP to the BW (back-end database of BPC).

Integration with SAP is maximum, and this of course is intuitive, certainly not totally easy but perfectly doable.
Integrating "non-sap" data is obviously possible, but as with any integration of third-party data, it entails greater use of time and appropriate analyzes on data infrastructures, as well as data processing if the structure is to be revised.

The need to manually update the system for new accounts/offices/departments slows the monthly reporting process until all new values have been entered into the system at the appropriate point of the hierarchy. Employee data for a budget is difficult to keep consistent with an HR system, as loading data directly into BPC would over-write any attribute changes already made. This requires users to manually enter any HR changes into both the personnel system and BPC.

It's always possible, and with the right consultants you can achieve this integration. Every business is unique in its recording whether in SAP or non-SAP sources. If a company has a special way of recording certain accounts, consolidating entities, etc. then this may increase the difficulty of data integration into SAP BPC.

In my experiences for loading non-BPC data into BPC, it is a simple task. There is a predetermined format that the data file needs to be in, but once that has been accomplished and you are confident in the data in the file, loading is simple. The only time an issue arises is when the data being loaded includes dimension members that are not set up in the BPC, which will then kick those lines of data out and the necessary dimensions need set up before trying to reload the file.

It really depends on your implementation, if you are doing simple mapping of accounts it can be very straightforward. If you are doing complex mappings it can be VERY complex.

Integration of SAP data is good but can be improved. Data from our R/3 ECC system has a one day lag when syncing with SAP BPC.

Non-SAP data must be manually entered or uploaded via flat file (.csv). Most users manually enter the data which is subject to inaccuracies since it is not a direct integration from non-SAP sources. This may be a company-specific issue.

Why BPC?

While the integration is seamless with SAP, non-SAP sources require mapping that needs to be maintained to convert to a BPC master data equivalent. The integration requires maintenance and regular support to ensure it is accurate and reconciling. When multiple ERP sources are used, it is time-consuming to build multiple interfaces.
