Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Network

We are a supplier, and our customers integrate with our systems using SAP Business Network. Customers only have to integrate with SAP Business Network 1 time, then have access to any of their vendors who are also integrated with the platform simplifying procurement with their vendors.

Pros

  • Communicate with the community
  • Solicit feedback from partners
  • Provide solutions to customer needs for simplified procurement
  • Utilize standard schemas and data flows to ease vendor integrations

Cons

  • Push standard "out of the box" onboarding to simplify integrations
  • utilize supplier experience and knowledge to improve the onboarding process
  • communicate coming changes and enhancements so suppliers know of new functionality through newsletters or webinars
  • Simplify onboarding of our customers into our procurement processes
  • Standardized formats allow us to trade with 100s of partners with minimal customizations
  • Quick payment resolution, if there is an issue having PO Flip manual options is huge
Not sure we realize collaboration improvements since we are in the implementation phase of the process. Maybe the business sees collaboration improvements with their customers, we just do not in IT.
Risk is mitigated by having standard processes, that allow quicker invoice payment through automation. Not sure I see how it has improved supply chain disruptions.
Besides quicker onboarding, and payment processing, I do not know of much collaboration we do across the network. Maybe some RFP responses, but that is a different team. My team sees great process efficiencies by utilizing standard cXML formats in trading with the network.
There is still a ton of flexability on the customer's end of the platform, which makes standard onboarding for suppliers a challenge. Customers are allowed to ask for things, or customize certain things that are not standard for us, so we have to have special rules set up to complete an integration. There are also some limitations to automate invoice rejections that happen on the platform when a customer rejects an invoice.
We have been using SAP Business Network for over 20 years, mainly because our customers use the platform, so we must serve them.

Large companies want to simplify procurement with their vendor community. Using a platform such as SAP Business Network greatly simplifies this, and does not lock customers to 1 single supplier like direct integration does.
