Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform

We are both a SAP Business Technology Platform customer and we are part of the SAP BUILD program. We use SAP Business Technology Platform to automate many of our common tasks and, especially, our interactions with our suppliers. As a BUILD partner, we use VTP, as the foundation of many of our apps and services. Our apps and services tend to be in the procurement, supply chain, and ERP transformation market spaces.

Pros

  • Consumer grade portal with Work Zone
  • Good collection of functionality with Process Automation
  • Good ability to integrate apps with Work Zone
  • Robust selection of integration options

Cons

  • We have noticed that the CAP files seem to throw a lot of errors and are difficult to work with
  • It would be useful if they work, zone cards could use rest-based services as well as odata
  • We have had difficulties in using IAS in combination with both S4/Hana, Fieldglass, and Ariba
  • We especially love work zone because of its consumer grade, user interface and ease of configuration for new cards.
  • We really like SAC, because of its interactive analytics and ability to create reports. Sometimes, though, it cannot be intuitive to insert data into SAC.
  • We have had cases where updates have negatively affected a customer project while we were in the middle of the customer project. Software updates really need to be regression tested, especially 40-day defects.
The ability of work zone to have multiple tabs, analytics cards, pre-positioned package content, and conversations with participants is extremely useful. We especially like how easy it is to configure a new dashboard. Works zone, in particular, has really allowed us to increase the level of interaction of the software that we create the top of the SAP Business Technology Platform.
We have had issues with support. Some of the responses have been less than helpful, and we seem to have more questions afterward than before submitting a ticket. We have had issues with updates as well. Once, we were in the middle of a customer services engagement, and the update broke the software that we had been creating for them. It then took us a week to fix the problems caused by the update.

We have had much success in using SAP Business Technology Platform for analytics. It seems that the integration of work zone with applications through the CAP files sometimes has some errors and bugs.
