Overall Satisfaction with SAP Datasphere

SAP Datasphere as an ETL tool to extract data to an outside AWS Cloud Databricks (S3 buckets) to build a datalake with data from different domains (finance, HR, ...) Might use it for modelisation and reporting in the future.

Pros

  • Simple interface to extract the data
  • Clear error messages

Cons

  • Dashboards for insights (number of rows extracted, % of failure, average duration)
  • Embedded advice on the best setup based on the volumetry ( not through the calculator on the SAP site )
  • Integrate an easy performance monitoring tool for the source systems (to assess the impact of the extraction)
  • Easier tracking of cost
  • Able to centralized data in a datalake easily
  • Initial cost incurred by high volumetry of data can be hard (and difficult to assess )
  • Financial reporting enablement
It is a good ETL but still requires some improvements (some setup can be tricky initially and can cause some misunderstanding between source data and data extracted, maybe some features to come on the roadmap to facilitate working with ODPs )

Do you think SAP Datasphere delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with SAP Datasphere's feature set?

Yes

Did SAP Datasphere live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of SAP Datasphere go as expected?

No

Would you buy SAP Datasphere again?

Yes

To replicate data (not real time) including huge volumetry of data (mote than a billion) easy integration with AWS cloud and Databricks (S3 buckets)
