Use Cases and Deployment Scope

S/4 HANA is used for the internal finance and human resource systems for the entire Accenture company. We execute all of our production on one SAP instance. Using S/4HANA we close our monthly, quarterly and yearly business processes in 3 days. Without SAP S/4HANA this would be much longer. The other business problem addressed is managing all our human resources needs.

Pros and Cons

S/4 with HANA is much faster database then previous SQL. This is due to the speed of the in-process memory.

SAP S/4HANA in process memory requires very powerful and expensive machines.

Return on Investment

It's had a positive impact by reducing our close time from 5 days down to 2 or 3.

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database

The HANA in-memory feature makes HANA much faster than previous storage based databases. Also, with storage based databases there is frequently a need to expand drives or add SAN drives which leads to extra expense. We selected S/4 HANA because it was the next generation upgrade from SAP and we aim to keep current.

SAP S/4 HANA is suited for businesses looking to optimize performance when executing financial close processes. It may not be appropriate for smaller businesses with less budget. Regarding human resource management, SAP, in general, is good a simplifying the process with the out of the box solution. This helps customers who do not want to have to maintain complex codebase.
