SAP Transportation Management Review
Overall Satisfaction with SAP Transportation Management
We use SAP Transportation Management to move changes across dev/qa/pre-prod production and sandbox landscapes. Since we are also a retail shop we need to keep up with the markets and SAP Transportation Management enables that. Also any bug fixes projects etc get moved via the SAP Transportation Management process. For Retail landscape we move anywhere from 50-150 changes a week and for Corporate landscape 30-70 per week.
Pros
- Capturing Logs and objects of each change/ transport
- Automatic movement of changes via the SAP Transportation Management queue
- Setting up workflow to automate the client specific and SID specific movements
- Express the configuration graphically very well
- Ease of changing configuration of SAP Transportation Management and moving it through the landscape.
Cons
- The transport management system could have a check that would tell for code contention & or identify critical objects.
- Can we have the features of CHARM etc in SAP Transportation Management?
- Include web and non abap objects in SAP Transportation Management
- Enables movement of code changes through the landscape seamlessly
- We have a busy shop and it doesn't matter if a project with 1000+ changes or 100 changes, the system handles it very well. The business is happy that we can move all these changes at one go
- One feature would be to identify if the changes are to some core objects in the system then take an automatic backup or at least give that option.
