Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use SQL Sentry Performance Advisor for monitoring our SQL Server estate. It has helped us to address the issue of poor performance, and made it obvious where the performance bottlenecks are.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Good indication of where blocking occurs as it occurs
Realtime indication of the longest running queries
Quick notification of deadlocks and a good record of deadlock history

Cons

Can be difficult to customise at times. Alert emails aren't as flexible as we would like
Licensing is a bit restrictive. Perhaps licencing on a number of servers basis such as 1-10,10-25,25-50 etc. rather than per instance would be better

Alternatives Considered

Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager and Redgate SQL Monitor

Likelihood to Recommend

Really good where there are badly performing queries, where the queries themselves are the issue rather than any hardware.

Hello, One of our best resources for compiling a product road map is by getting great input from customers. So, thank you for your experience and input. I wanted to mention that some further customization of email alerts is on the road map. In addition, we do have some other licensing options available now. This includes Core Based licensing and Subscriptions. Both of which have their own pros and cons, just as our traditional licensing, but do allow some options and flexibility depending on the environment being monitored. Our goal, is finding as many ways as possible to help customers like you get and use our products.
