Overall Satisfaction with SQL Sentry Performance Advisor

Nordic Santander Consumer Bank has used the SQL Sentry Performance Advisor several years for online monitoring of our SQL Servers, both on an operational level and to support data warehouse.

The performance tool allows us to support the business by immediately finding any blocking actions on SQL servers and resolve this immediately in close cooperation with our system vendors and application operations. Statistics from the tool allows us to discuss and perform optimizing actions both from an application and operations point of view.

Highly recommended!

Cons

  • Capability to do on-demand update statistics
  • Security on database level (usergroup A can only see and receive notification on databases Z, Y and Z)
Because of previous experience with the tool, we did a short analysis of other tools and chose SQL Sentry Performance Adviser because of price, functionality, support and high expertise.
The tool is very well suited for operational monitoring including statistics. The feature of index defragmentation is working well, but could be expanded to also cover update statistics.

In response to some of your comments, please make sure you are on the latest version of SQL Sentry so you can take advantage of the new Index Analysis feature. Along with several other really great features, you also have the ability to update statistics through the client. For some more information on this feature, make sure to check out the blog post linked below. -http://blogs.sqlsentry.com/aaronbertrand/sql-sentry-v10-index-analysis/ While our Rights Based client security does not go down to the database level, you can configure certain conditions to send alerts based on specific criteria and to certain people. This can be done through overriding conditions at various levels and using condition filters.
