DPM in a nutshell.
Overall Satisfaction with System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM)
We use DPM to backup our entire network, for both physical and virtual servers. We have over 50 servers. This provides for quick in-house Disaster Recovery. We also utilize a dedicated backup network to enable fast and efficient backup/restore without ever affecting the production network. It is wonderful to be able to manage your entire network backups with a single pane of glass.
Pros
- Hyper-V backup /restore
- Bare-Metal backup/restore
- Good management console
Cons
- Remote and non-domain backups could be simplified.
- It has saved us on licensing costs and through centralized management.
- Veeam Backup & Replication and Veritas Backup Exec
We selected it simply because it is less expensive than the competition, but yet just as good. We saw no reason to go outside the walls of Microsoft for this task. We are satisfied with the product.
