Overall Satisfaction with Teradata Enterprise Data Warehousing

Teradata was bought to consolidate and unify our data platform, leverage the performance of the Teradata Appliance to derive faster results
  • Very capable enterprise data warehouse platform leveraging the MPP architecture. One of the leaders in the market in MPP space today
  • High performance data ingestion and query engine
  • Utilities like QueryGrid allows for data federation, BTEC and FastLoad etc allow for high performance data ingestion and processing
  • Ideally being used for ELT type data integration, with push down optimisation where complex logic is processed using the power of Teradata appliance than the ETL server
  • MPP architecture is becoming legacy architecture with the advent of Hadoop, MongoDB etc.
  • Though QueryGrid and Teradata on Hadoop are available, they are add-ons to an already pricey Teradata appliance
  • Performance is well appreciated
  • Data ingestion is faster and so is data retrieval compared to erstwhile database platform
  • Helped with faster decision making
We did not really evaluate various cloud offerings and opted for on-premise database platform. Compared to Oracle and SQL Server, Teradata fared well with respect to performance
Pricey, but performance comes with price
Frequent version upgrades is a pain
Increasing storage space is not always easy as you buy a pre-built storage
