Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Jaspersoft

  • We embed TIBCO Jaspersoft into our commercial application(s) that we sell to customers
We wrote a large data analytics app, but kept running into situations where users were needing custom reports created. We ended up deciding that we were going to have to to find an embeddable BI and reporting engine for our customers to use to avoid having to die a death of 1000 cuts from users wanting one-off reports.
  • I think TIBCO does a good job of creating a good licensing model.
  • They've updated their product with more modern charting libraries.
  • We regularly find bugs that we have to report, it may just be our use case.
  • The authentication framework is a little tough to master.
  • It took us a few years to get it fully implemented.
While no product is without its faults, overall, I think we've generated a positive ROI from this product. We needed an embeddable reporting engine, and they certainly provide that. Our customers are generally able to get the reports that they need in a timely manner and we are able to move on about our day.
It's important for us to have broad platform support because we use multiple technologies in our stack. Our users also use multiple browsers to access our product, which adds complexity. We can't be fooling around with plugins... installing local software on our users' workstations. Other than some issues we found when Windows 7 touch came out, it's been pretty smooth.
We run a multi-tenancy application, so it's required that any application that we use has multi-tenancy features. Period. It's a deal-breaker for us if they don't have it. So, not having to run an individual instance of the application for each customer is a huge advantage over other applications that are out there.
Tableau was way, way more expensive and wasn't able to be embedded and white labeled, so we didn't go with them. I think Tableau is stronger on the visualization and predictive side... but overall... if you can't afford them, who cares?
I think the product is well suited in a scenario where the user understands what they're buying and what they aren't buying. You're not buying Tableau. You're buying an embeddable solution that can be white labeled and added to your application. You're not buying the work product of a multi-billion dollar product.
