Overall Satisfaction with Spotfire

Currently I am in progress of implementing the Spotfire globally in OMV E&P due to the fact that the product brings flexibility in visualization and data mining. The product will be used to create visualizations/analysis which will support decision makers to make the right decision at the right time. It adresses the entire OMV E&P investment portfolio.

Pros

  • Main strengths are easy configurable graphs/visualizations
  • Fast filtering and accessible data mining
  • Easy deployment on web for users' access
  • Easy configurable user access levels

Cons

  • Preconfigured creaming curves graphs (at the moment you need to build several formulas in order to build such a graph)
  • Preconfigured waterfall graphs
  • Drill up and down functionalities on all graphs allowing the user to drill from one tab to the other (currently partially available)
  • More user friendly Interface.
  • Easier to configure the access to data bases and other data types.
  • Easier to build aggregations within the graphs.
Data mining and Analytics, Dashboarding is perfectly fitted.
Less Appropriate in building graphs which are not pre-build into the tool (e.g. Waterfall graphs, creaming curves...).Drill down graphs/tabs.

Using Spotfire

20 - Mostly are from Production, Portfolio and Exploration
3 - IT guys from a database connection perspective. The rest is quite intuitive.
  • Visualization of Portfolios development and Portfolio drill down and analysis
  • Rank and cut of projects based on creaming curves
  • Performance management tracking and reporting
  • Portfolio visualizations
  • Planning discussions

Evaluating Spotfire and Competitors

Yes - Microsoft BI. Due to development costs and also dependence on vendor for setting up dashboards.

Easy usability of the product full integration with Palantir PLAN, easy configurable interfaces with db.
Looking at price of the licence on user side I might have a second thought on it.
