Overall Satisfaction with Unified Functional Testing (formerly HP UFT)

It is being used in our project. Various applications belonging to different genres are automated via this. Mainframe applications, Web applications and desktop based applications are covered in its purview. It is being used by many people belonging to the project.
  • With a single tool we can automate MF, Web based and desktop based applications which is a plus.
  • It saves considerable amount of time & effort.
  • Multi-User variable license helps to achieve simultaneous usage.
  • Very expensive
  • Sometimes object recognition doesn't work as expected
  • PDF applications are not able to be automated
  • Client is happy as automation saves time.
  • It is very expensive so not able to buy more licences and somewhat limits user access.
  • Needs specialists who are good in vbscripting so training takes up some time.
Since Selenium is restricted to only Web based applications it isn't suitable for our project which has Mainframe and desktop based applications in majority. Selenium is open source and free so it can be preferred for some projects
Mainframe applications are easy to automate as it classifies all the objects into three categories only. It becomes much less complicated and faster to automate & run. In some scenarios like PDF form filling it is very tedious to automate. Descriptive programming may take a lot of effort and still yield unsatisfactory results.
