Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System

Unique Learning System helps me keep all of my curriculum streamlined. It also works in concert with N2Y, L3 skills, and Symbolstix. My students learn the symbols and vocabulary, which also reinforces their AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) language systems. I particularly enjoy the science and social studies activities. I have been a user for about 13 years, and improvements are always being made.

Pros

  • Stays current
  • presents content in an age-respectful way
  • includes characters who look like my students

Cons

  • I’d like to see more units added instead of the same 3 year rotation
  • more accessibility features, particularly for students with vision impairments
  • videos to go along with the units
  • Time saved on planning
  • a cohesive look with materials
  • Assigning homework
I don’t use the planning tools as much as I could. That’s a goal of mine for the next school year. Being able to push out assignments to my students on their devices has saved a lot of time and paper. I also like that I can see what they have and haven’t completed and easily retrieve data.
I love it when my students are able to recognize a word from the symbolated text and connect that word to their AAC device and use it to communicate. Those lightbulb moments are very special to me!
I think the features are fairly easy to use, but not always easy to find. I can see how a new user may become overwhelmed. Once you get used to it, it’s fine. I think there could also be more professional development sessions to help with this.
In my opinion, TeachTown doesn’t hold a candle to Unique Learning System. My students were very frustrated by TeachTown, as was I. The program would give feedback that they were selecting the right things, when they weren’t. It was also TOO repetitive. Unique Learning System provides planning tools, and TeachTown doesn’t. I much prefer Unique Learning System’s transition curriculum.

Do you think Unique Learning System delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Unique Learning System's feature set?

Yes

Did Unique Learning System live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Unique Learning System go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Unique Learning System again?

Yes

Unique Learning System is well suited for students in self-contained classrooms who need to access grade-level curriculum. I would love to see more life skills incorporated for students who are working on functional skills. It doesn’t translate well to the general education classroom for students who go to inclusive settings.
