Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use ULS curriculum in my classroom each day. I am able to modify/adapt things for each of my student's individual needs with ease. I can project the interactive versions of the activities on the SmartBoard in order to work as a whole group or to support their individual copies that are at their desks. Although it sometimes feels lacking in older bands of the curriculum for certain areas, in the elementary band, I have very little trouble using all of the pieces throughout the use of each unit. I do wish there was some more alignment with a life skills component, however that could be just parts that I am not able to utilize at this time.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Pairing different levels and words with visuals to support language acquisition for non-reading, non-speaking students
SymbolStix is easy to use and organize to create boards for all different activities as needed in the classroom.
Different levels are provided that can be used for different students in the classroom

Cons

A search function over the whole site would be great. I am able to search within different areas, but sometimes I do not remember where I had seen documents or activities.
Clearer navigation within L3 Skills for use as a whole class.

All-in-one Curriculum

This system is the only one I really need in the classroom at this time. I supplement for some areas, but not many and I am able to use the K-12 Learning Profiles as well as the other assessments to help guide my lessons and writing of IEPs.

User Impact

I was given mostly autonomy using the curriculum and the way I am able to implement the different pieces have lead to my classes consistently making progress and meeting or exceeding all of their goals.

Usability

Some of the navigation can be difficult. It can be difficult to remember where I found things before. Now that I have used it for almost 10 years, I am able to find specific lessons easily, however that was not the case in the beginning as I learned it.

Alternatives Considered

I specifically chose the school district that I work in because they have ULS, SymbolStix, L3 Skills, and News2You for the progress.

Likelihood to Recommend

I find the telling time lessons to be too difficult to use. I also think some more phonics activities aligned with other reading curriculums would be great.

I love the stories and the activities that go with the high frequency words and the comprehension of the stories. Ithink the movement and sequence with the math lessons (specifically 19a and 19b) are very well-organized.
