Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System

I use them for group, individual, and completely independent work in my online school.
I've been trying to figure out a way to make it more user friendly for online learners so they can do things more independently. I love using IXL because it helps my students when they don't get it right, and because they have a ton of videos that go along with it.

I would also love to see power points and visuals that I can use for the lessons. So I can quickly pull up a powerpoint to go with the lesson to guide me easier and to engage my students more. I have made some like this, but it's just not possible for me to make one for every single lesson that I'm teaching.
I would love to see an option to have students have different levels for different subjects. I have one student who is a good reader, but struggles in math so I would love to be able to differentiate her level that way.

Pros

  • Aligning to core at students level
  • Having relevant content
  • Having plenty of content

Cons

  • Having a visual lesson plan for each lesson (a ton of work, but would be SO helpful for teaching)
  • I don't have the answer, but figuring out a way to make it easier to work with students online (I have students that learn completely online, and sometimes it's tricky to know what they are doing)
  • Links within the suggested unit pacing
  • Saved time on planning
  • Saved time on creation of content
  • Saved time and simplified data collection
It's made it so much simpler and given me a direction to go with supplementing other materials.
Just yesterday I pulled up the lesson and was like, oh great... graphing. That's such a complex thing, I don't even think I should be teaching this student this.

I started the lesson, and was SHOCKED at how fast he caught on. Just answer example that we teach core concepts becuase we never know what a student can do. Pounding word problems in them might seem like the best option, but having variety and new skills will help them learn and grow in other areas.
I have had the HARDEST time figuring it out compared to other programs I have used. I've been using it for a year and a half and still can't find things and am not sure if I'm even accessing everything that you have to offer because there are so many different places things are. Slowly but surely I am getting more used to it. I use the suggested unit pacing and lot and I wish that the lessons were linked so I could be even more efficient when planning and teaching.

Would you buy Unique Learning System again?

Great for having something quick to use for lessons that aligns with essential elements in a way students can access it.

Harder to work with completely online students. Better access on how to quickly engage students in lessons, and have visuals for lessons would be so helpful for engagement.
