Unique Learning Systems makes planning easier for High School Teacher
Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System
We use the unit on economics to discover how business effects the students' lives. We also do the math lessons that are provided. We can learn how to write a check which seems like an outdated business skill and would love to see that go toward using a debit card in the future. Unique Learning Solutions is our main curriculm and we use it daily for math, ELA, science and social studies.
Pros
- Differentiated into 3 levels but cover the same assignment.
- Ability to assign lessons for the week or the unit to help streamline planning. I can adjust as the unit goes on if needed.
- Keeps scores and data from their daily unit lessons.
- Unit pre and post tests are mirrored for good data collection.
- Benchmarks tie into lessons.
- I can get data for IEP goals too.
Cons
- Checks are not used by students. Would like a variety of math materials to be updated to students' life reality.
- We use chromebooks and the benchmarks and the unit checkpoints are hard to see on student screens. Sometimes there are missing choices that are off-screen.
- Please bring back the symbol supported breaking News2You articles.
- Ease of planning is #1. I am able to plan an entire lesson or a week's worth of lessons during my 30-minute planning time.
- Data that is collected for IEPs is so valuable and reports are parent-friendly.
- Students are able to work on the alternative path toward a diploma because this curriculm is covering all of the standards they need to see in order to earn their diploma.
I am all in on Unique Learning Systems. My planning is cut down by hours as I can assign all of the week's work in one setting. The lessons are interconnected so the unit lesson is the road map that drives the rest of my lessons for the month around that theme. I am able to get picture books from the library to add to read aloud to my class for additional engagement. Knowing what units are coming up makes long term planning so much easier too. No need to hunt for or pay for additional lessons. Everything is included.
The unit on the Constitution has come back up months later as students refer back to what we learned in Spetember. Student engagement is way up! of my 18 students, 16 can independently log in and work on Unique Learning Systems which allows me time to pull small groups. We were not able to do that as easily before we starting using it.
I have piloted TeachTown but our school choose to go with Unique Learning Systems. Luckily for us, you will be merging the companies so that we can get the best of both worlds (I hope!) I am a classroom teacher and did not have any voice in the decision to choose the program, but I am definitely glad that they did.
