Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System

We use Unique Learning System for our specialized classroom instruction. We use the pdf on news2you for the weekly packet assignment, do read-alouds and reading intervention using the News2You packet, and assign benchmarks for IEP goals.

Pros

  • Individualized benchmark assessments that are great data points for progress monitoring.
  • The 3 levels are great for individualized instruction based on the kids' needs.
  • The visuals under the texts are helpful for the kids to tie the words to memory.

Cons

  • The text-to-speech only has a male voice. Our students that are girls could use a text-to-speech voice more similar to them.
  • An AI tool to help explain the benchmarks and put them into progress monitoring blurbs using the data.
  • More engaging topics for the weekly News2You articles.
  • Time saved on planning, it allows me to assign rather than create.
  • The descriptions on the benchmark make for great SMART IEP goals.
  • The graph of progress for each student makes tracking much easier.
Unique Learning System has transformed my approach to daily instruction because it allows for everything to be a one-stop shop. Lessons, data tracking, benchmarks, and it essentially allows us to transition from whole group instruction and then break it down to individualized assignments.
The students love the weekly N2Y article and the packet associated with it. With some of our students that need more supports, it has drastically improved their work ethic, effort, and tolerance.
For the most part, it is easy to navigate. However, learning the system did require some training and support from colleagues. I believe it could be more simplified with less links and areas to click.

Unique Learning System is a phenomenal tool to use in small group instruction for kids with moderate to severe disabilities. It would be less appropriate for an inclusion and/or general ed class.
