We love Unique Learning System
Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System
We use Unique Learning System as our low incidence curriculum in our district wide K-12 sped programs. We have a wide range of students needing to be served on a modified curriculum. Unique Learning System resolves that for us and allows us to differentiate for multiple levels across several grade bands, gives us amazing data - especially trackable data for IEPs, and is always increasing their materials and trainings which leads to more effective use and better access to education for our students.
Pros
- Differentiates for students at 3 different levels
- Provides trainings and reminders for teachers throughout the year
- Reaches out to administration about implementation and assistance
- Responsive to inquiries about assistance needed
- Paired visuals embedded in their materials is amazing
- Mirroring formats for STAAR Alt2 on benchmarks are great for practice
Cons
- Unique Learning System's materials in the science and social studies areas aren't "fluffy" as other areas, but they are continuously adding materials
- The layout of the website isn't the most user friendly, but most teachers are able to navigate easily after an initial training
- The administrator side of things isn't super straightforward, reports can be confusing to find/run, but the one on one meetings always provide clarity.
- Time saved on planning
- Data tracking for IEP goals and objectives
- Evidence of student progress and mastered skills
- Administration's ability to track staff and student usage
This has helped us streamline planning and training for our new users. Veteran teachers are able to compile plans and pass it along to our new users in a way that makes sense for them, is easy to implement until they can use Unique Learning System on their own, and co-plan for activities/lessons/assessments with input from teachers across the district. The planner has been a great tool for us!
There was a point in time last year in which I trained the teachers for half a day and allowed them to collaborate across campuses and settings. We saw a huge increase in usage after that, I think teachers seeing other teachers using it and building it into their schedule made it seem practical and many teachers bought into it. I received many "bookings" after that PLC so that teachers with questions could be trained or retrained, and our classrooms and students really saw a change in behavior, learning, and productivity.
The tracking and reporting in Unique Learning System are very beneficial, and the visuals and differentiation aspect, in my opinion, are more consistent and cleaner. Unique Learning System is most appropriate for our low incidence classroom needs.
