Overall Satisfaction with Unique Learning System
I use it in a Jr High Self-Contained classroom to differentiate the lessons to the ability levels of the students. The program also lets me collect IEP goal data that is appropriate and useful. I really like that I can print specific parts at the correct level for students who cannot use technology while assigning online versions for others at higher levels.
An issue with the program is that it needs more "current" topics that are for older kids who are at lower levels. I have students who are into "K Pop Demon Hunters" but reading at 1st grade levels so finding stuff to engage them is hard.

Pros
- leveled lessons
- complete lessons
- multiple subjects
Cons
- higher interest items
- shorter lessons option - can never get through it in a month
- google compatible
- as a teacher I am thankful my district has this program
- makes data tracking easy for IEP Goals
- easy to differentiate lessons within a classroom
I will admit I don't use it for all my lessons because of the Jr High requirements and areas of interest. When I do use it, specifically for ELA, it really helps that the lessons are leveled and easily available to print or assign electronically or I can use my interactive board for whole group instruction. It also helps with those who are more socially aware, so they don't feel "different" when working at a "lower" level because it doesn't appear different at a glance.
It wasn't actually in my room but introduced it to another district. My husband works for the [...] National Guard, and during the Havasupai Falls flooding, News2You had it under Current events. I printed it in the simplified form for him to see how I would teach what he did to my class. He actually took it to his debriefing, where another member stated that his son was autistic and this would be perfect to explain what happened and asked where he got it. I got his son's teacher the contact info and that district is now using Unique Learning System.
