Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows

We are using Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows in production servers to have an additional secondary backup solution. They are set up to retain historic copies and are also configured to alert the associated admins through email. Also, make full copies after one or two weeks of operation. Till now, they have never failed to launch.

Pros

  • I can perform a bare metal restore.
  • Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows integrates with Veeam Backup & Replication.
  • Start the OS from the Veeam Recovery Media.

Cons

  • More detailed UI.
  • UI Agent should be larger.
  • Multitasking of backup jobs.
  • Secondary platform to do an extra incremental backup.
  • Reduced the cost of an extra backup solution.
  • Used a spare NAS to store backups.
It is a very robust solution that has never failed. It also has perfect integration with Windows server volume shadow copies. The processing load is moved from the backup server to the backup proxy. Increased fault tolerance: you can store data on a separate machine, the backup repository. Can perform a bare metal restore.
  • NAKIVO Backup & Replication
Used Nakivo Backup & replication for many years on a Synology NAS for replicating VMware hosts on it. Veeam does not have the same functionality, but it's a robust alternative, taking the offload of backup away from using a NAS. It also runs faster than other solutions, depending on how fast and on what server runs.

We use it as a Simple Deployment. As a simple deployment scenario, the roles of the backup server, VMware backup proxy, and backup repository are assigned to a single machine. These roles are assigned automatically to the machine where we installed Veeam Backup & Replication. The drawback of the simple deployment scenario is that only the backup server handles and stores all data which is a single point of failure.

Yes - Nakivo backup and replication. Replaced over the simplicity that Veeam has.
