Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We use Veeam in our IT department to backup critical data, entire virtual machine infrastructure and some windows server / file server with Veeam agent. With Veeam we are able to backup on tape library for a safer backup.

Pros

  • Backup easily but exhaustively of virtual infrastructure
  • Replica of vm to another host
  • Backup on tape
  • Backup to usb disk with offline/online disk rotation management

Cons

  • Tape backup could be improved, especially by improving tape library sharing
  • Possibility to use only one tape library with more than one Veeam installation (sharing tape library)
  • Adding failover / clustering function
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery

We use Veeam for backupping more than 30 virtual machines, 3 VMware hosts, 2 Windows file servers and some critical client, also located in operation technology area; when we adopted the Veeam solution we didn't have the 2 file server and we didn't backup OT critical client/server.

Before Veeam Backup & Replication we [didn't] have a virtual machine, we only [had] a backup of file server
We have not used Veeam for Cloud Backup at the moment.
We are backupping with Veeam all of our files server, its incremental backup on tape and on usb disk give us a great security.

Veeam is usable in multiple scenarios. I can suggest it for backup of virtual infrastructure, but also for backup of AD, SQL DB, entire file server and also for backuping single critical server / machine
