Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
We use it for our Citrix environment that supports the personal/commercial insurance division nationwide. All data is centralized and Veeam is a part of our backup solution.
Pros
- Runs without issues
- Fairly easy setup
- 'Reverse incremental' backup is specifically nice in the event of a restore.
Cons
- The backup to tape feels a bit clunky. That could be just my setup but it just doesn't feel as smooth as it should.
- Backing up 'non-VMs' is also a bit clunky. I realize Veeam is designed for VMs so I really can't complain much here.
- I can't speak to the ROI, that's an accounting issue.
We first started with Veeam in a single environment and have added more remote offices to Veeam as time went on. This is also true throughout the rest of the company.
To date, we have never had a full VM failure that required a restore. We have only restored individual files and test restores.
We do monthly test restores and have never/very rarely had bad data. Veeam is able to test and repair bad data on its own and it appears to work well.
We used to use Backup Exec and have moved all offices to Veeam mostly because of VMs. Veeam just works better with VMs. We do have one office that still uses backup exec to sweep the Veeam data to tape.
