Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We have replaced two products for backup of VM and file-level data, and are now using Veeam Backup & Replication. After backups were configured, we also used Veeam Backup& Replication for the replication of virtual machines from the primary data centers to the disaster recovery site, and it's very efficient. For virtual machines, it has no competitor, while for file-level, it does. More flexibility is promised in the next release. The cloud integration is superb, which makes Veeam Backup & Replication flexible to use with any backup source to any backup destination.
  • Veeam Backup for Virtual Machines has no other competition far away.
  • Veeam Agent-based backup is so efficient that we can backup workstation even over Wifi.
  • Replication of Virtual Machines smoothly and verified is also making Veeam Backup & Replication unique.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication for different platforms, including Linux, Windows, and even VMWare, is just great.
  • Offsite Job Scheduling is easy to configure and handle tape jobs is smooth.
  • It was a moment when we used Veeam Cloud to connect smoothly moved archive backup seamlessly to Cloud archive storage, enabling us to use Cloud-out to replace Tape-Out.
  • Veeam Agent jobs monitoring and retry them from a central console is the area that needs improvement.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication workstation-based agent's job status should be more visible.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication console performance also need improvement as it lacks performance when the workload is high.
  • File to tape backup for Linux folders has some issues as Linux file structure allow same name folder with different case letter. We found problems in this area.
  • We cannot make duplicate copies of Tape Cartridges on which File-level data is taken. Hence source is engaged in taking a backup (thus new backup job with fresh timestamp).
  • We try to scale Veeam Backup & Replication console - to separate Replication jobs and backup jobs for Hyper-V servers. Still, we weren't able to, as one hyper-visor can only report to one console server. Hence, if the one-Hyper-V host is configured in the replication server inventory, we cannot configure it in another Secondary instance of Veeam Backup & Replication console.
  • 200% ROI as we got more than we asked in one solution.
  • The backup solution we needed, replication solution was an add-on.
  • Bare metal backup astonishing.
  • File-to tape, simple free.
  • Veeam One for reports - superb.
We are now taking a backup of 70 mission-critical virtual machines — the approx. Size is 60TB per month. While file-level backup is 120 TB that we take on tapes and with the help of Veeam cloud connect features and new features in V10, we are planning to use cloud-out to replace Tape-based offsite data copy. And without giving any additional feature cost. In addition to that, we have replication of Virtual machines (Hyper-V and VMware both) using the same console. We quarterly conduct a disaster recovery drill where backup bone is Veeam B&R. This is the thing that we didn't anticipate at the time of deployment.
We have conducted POC for using BLOB storage on the cloud. Even the use of any storage as a repository gives flexibility in running operations without any issue even after any upgrade or procurement of storage is delayed.
Quarterly we have a drill to perform restores on test areas to keep SOPs intact and staff familiar with steps. The lab and sandbox option is an excellent add on to verify pilot projects . also create labs for various tests without touching production — verification of backups made easy using these features. The new feature of scanning backup files with antivirus is also an excellent add-on for verified backup and restores.
  • We published all desired features for taking the backup of Virtual Machines with speed. Utilize data domain storage as well as other low-cost storage and also take the backup of NAS (file level).
  • Veeam Backup & Replication won the competition reasonably even on the technical ground as well as financial ground that were offered by other competitors at higher prices.
  • Some were left out due to meeting the full requirement of backup support.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication fairly won the bid.
For infrastructure nowadays, where we are looking to use a public cloud resource, Veeam Backup & Replication is best-suited to either take a backup from on-premises servers or virtual machines. It also covers integrating to a public cloud resource whether you need to backup on-premises to cloud or take backup of cloud-based VM. I can't think of any area where Veeam Backup & Replication wouldn't work. It is also cost-effective as compared to competitors with the same capabilities.
