Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

I use Veeam Backup & Replication to backup a single physical application server both on an on-prem backup server and on a rotation external tape solution. The company is small (less than 10 people) but the Community Edition is perfect for this use case. I receive a notification email every time a backup is taken and I can log in remotely to the console if I have to change or fix something. But the thing I like the most is the ability to boot and restore directly from the backup. Simple and easy, like a time machine! I’m very grateful to the colleague who suggested Veeam! A strong and robust solution even for personal use or businesses that don’t have the budget or necessity of a beefier solution!
  • It’s robust and fully featured yet intuitive and easy to use
  • Its client-server approach can be really helpful when dealing with a large number of machines/servers
  • The company is trustworthy
  • It’s very good and it’s free, nothing to complain about in my case.
I‘m backing up a single physical server and that’s what I planned. I was thinking about including also all the clients but given the actual IT layout (dumb terminals with only Office 365), I chose to backup only that server with Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition and let Veeam Backup for Office 365 do the rest.
  • The Community Version is free. It’s easy to install and set up so excellent ROI for me.
We don’t backup any data to the cloud.
We only used and tested the ability to recover an entire physical server from a backup, because at the moment that’s the level of service we need.
I received a recommendation from a senior colleague. It was reputable and with a free tier. I tried it and it worked great with all the features I needed so I didn't try any other commercial software.
It’s optimal for every kind of backup solution and infrastructure you can think of, both internal or external and both on-prem and in the cloud. My experience with Veeam Backup & Replication has been really good and I didn’t find any particular drawbacks. If you’re working with Windows or Linux machines and/or servers it’s the best way to backup!
