Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
It's being used first and foremost by the IT department, but pieces and tools have been rolled out to other department agents, and that is expanding all the time. It was meant to reduce backup headaches but is now doing so much more than we ever thought we'd use it for.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
- Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
- Automatic and regular recovery testing.
- Increased our security with the ransomware feature.
- SO fast and SO easy to use.
- Make it easier to get a ticket put in.
- Cost is high compared to others.
- More advanced recovery features.
Virtual and physical workloads are all completely covered by Veeam Backup & Replication. There's very few physical left these days, but the couple we have are safe with Veeam. Cloud is partially covered as we do have to consider the cost of full cloud backup and some service providers have it built into their costs already.
- All kinds of time saved testing recovery.
- LOTS more time saved not fixing bad backups.
- In the long run, money saved not trying lots of competing products.
After years of trial and error, even on some of the better backup products you hear about we settled on Veeam and have not looked back. When you're tired of confusing, complicated, and more often than not SLOW backups its really a breath of fresh air to use something that is so contrary to those experiences.
We have used or at least tested most of the cloud features of Veeam. If it were not for the super high costs of cloud service storage and bandwidth we'd probably have moved to full remote/cloud backups already. For now, we put our most important and critical backups up there for safekeeping.
File share backups are great if you don't already have a redundant NAS that replicates itself. We do, so currently, we're just using Veeam for a limited amount of file share backups. But when needed, those files restore super fast and easy for anyone with access to the system so highly recommended.
