Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We switched to Veeam from a competing product due to issues when needing to restore backups or servers after a disaster recovery situation. When we found our backups to have issues or not work at all, we knew we had to change. We're now using it across the organization and are using more and more features each day.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Ease of use
  • Speed of system
  • Value per dollar
  • More cloud functions needed.
  • Support response time reduced.
  • Documentation is somewhat lacking.
Most of our entire environment is virtual and more is moved from physical each day. And all our VMs are backed up with Veeam, so it's safe to say that within a short period of time, 100% of our systems will be on Veeam. That is more than we thought when we initially got it but it goes to show how well it works.
  • Price on top tier product is high but the value is there.
  • Saved our departments time and money on other backup options.
  • Decreased backup testing time.
The triggering action for change was major problems with the old backup solution. That's when we decided to check into the premium products, and just happened to find one of the easiest to use. That solved all kinds of issues for us and I would say it's heads and tails above all the others we have tried or heard about.
Cloud integration is really great. We use AWS and Azure and it links to both after some setup. Also, it gives you a great way to restore from any location when in a pinch. Knowing our data is safe and can be recalled from anywhere is a huge boost to our capabilities.
We have dabbled in the NAS backup solution but only on select file shares. Not because it doesn't work great, but because of the solution we're already paying for does this for us. With that said, when support runs out on our other option, we fully expect to move to Veeam file share backups.
Great all-around system and everyone has VMs these days, so its an easy sell for anyone with a good enough budget to justify one of the premium backup systems. It may be one of the pricier options, but when you value your time and stress, having a product that makes life easier is worth the cost.
