Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We began using Veeam shortly after our existing backup software was due for renewal. Our network team was having some issues with the existing software that affected product backups, restores, and replication. So since we were moving mostly to VM's we decided to look at Veeam's VM backup solution.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Accessing data for data mining or re-use of backup copies via API
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • Easy to use for admins and helpdesk techs alike.
  • Great solution for quickly restoring file share files.
  • Speedier backups and restores than before.
  • Cost is high but you get a premium product.
  • Easier patching process/upgrades.
  • More advanced admin options.
Workload wise, we have most of our system covered. The ones that aren't are only not covered because of their age or status (some that are on the way out we didn't bother putting in the system and taking up space). Other than that, I'd say most everything is protected by Veeam and that lets us sleep well at night!
  • Time saved on restore speeds.
  • Automated backup tested and verification saves lots of time.
  • Money saved on having to pay licensing for multiple tools.
We changed because of our aging and older style back-up system with no cloud options and very few advanced features. We needed a major change and so we went with Veeam with all the bells and whistles as it let us replace a whole range of products.
The cloud options are great and plentiful. You can store your local VM's in the cloud, or use it as a replication site. It supports a wide range of cloud providers too so we didn't have any troubles there. There are even more cloud functions that we're not using yet but look forward to in the future.
The file share backup system is super fast and really easy. We gave our helpdesk techs access to restore files and the users are very happy. We've had little to no complaints from users on file stores since moving to this system and believe me, they will complain when anything is changed or becomes a worse experience.
Definitely useful and would recommend to anyone asking for a good backup tool. It has so many major features now that it could be recommended for a replication system, cloud backup system, and/or file share backup and restore system. There is a lot here to like.
