Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

[Veeam Backup & Replication] is used by the IT department. It provides protection against data loss and business continuity in the event that the main data center fails.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Reverse incremental backups - means that the most recent backup is always the full one so restores are quicker.
  • Replication to 2nd cluster - really easy to setup and arrange. Works every time.
  • Backup encryption. Keeps the backups secure in case of intrusion.
  • Speed - it is not always the fastest and one slow job can throw out the schedules for all other jobs.
  • There's no intelligent scheduling option. I would like to be able to schedule an order and have veeam back up all the vms in that order, taking account of their particular requirements (e.g. exchange aware etc). At the moment you have to create different jobs for each type of backup and "guess" how long it will take.
  • Backup is limited in destinations in my experience.
40 vms
More than initially expected.
  • Positive - we have a secure reliable backup we can restore from easily. Have recovered everything from individual files to whole vms.
  • Saved huge amounts of time restoring vms after failures/misconfiguration/malware.
Poor performance from previous product. It would fail to backup frequently, It would fail to restore frequently. It was very unreliable,
Veeam [Backup & Replication] has not had any of these issues.
No - haven't used this.
No we haven't.
General backup of a virtualized environment, taking account of the different requires of backups, e.g. application awareness, truncation of logs etc.
