Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Veeam Backup & Replication has enhanced our backup windows and has given us the ability to move backups offsite. [It] is complex enough to do our tough jobs, yet easy enough to manage so that any of our team can jump in without extensive training and still be able to manage some of the more common functions like restoring a backup or starting a new backup. The ability for it to handle physical machines as well as virtual under a single pane of glass has been a huge asset to our company.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Immutable storage integration with third-party vendors.
  • Alerting when jobs succeed or fail.
  • Speed of backups using proxies on-site and off-site.
  • Scale out repositories.
  • IBM I series integration.
  • Local option to mount or dismount a USB device for backups for an air gapped backup solution (poor mans immutable solution) for physical and virtual environments.
30 virtual machines 3 physical, when we started using Veeam we had only 7 virtual machines and it has scaled up nicely. We went from just using a NAS as our repository to taking a old cluster and using the storage off a SAN and then migrated to a third party immutable storage offering that has increased our security from ransomware tremendously.
  • It has given us many hours back in our day compared to other backup solutions since it just works.
Before Veeam, our backup window for most servers was in the 5+ hours per machine now they are under 30 minutes on average. We were running into backups wanting to start before the other jobs have finished which made us scale back how often we were running backups so that there was a window for everything to complete. That is a huge improvement over that model and having to work around time constraints because of how long our previous backup solution would take.
Currently we do not use the cloud for our environment and everything is hosted in our internal cloud, but it is nice to know that if we do go down that path that we can take Veeam with us in our migration path and integrate both sides of things instead of having to find another solution.
We leverage Veeam to backup from a NAS that is still in use for just a large cheap storage array and instead of having to have two of them for replication we use Veeam to be able to backup that data and in the event of a hardware failure we can attach a drive to a virtual machine and restore that data to it in short time until we acquire new hardware.
Virtual environments- Veeam is hands down the best software that I have ever used for backup. Physical endpoint control and management could be a bit more user friendly, but it works well once configured correctly.
