Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365

Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 allows us to backup the most important data from Microsoft 365. It also allows us to delete accounts for terminated employees without worrying about losing their data.

It is much easier to retrieve an ex-employees OneDrive documents or email messages from the Veeam Data Cloud UI, as opposed to using the Microsoft 365 admin center or PowerShell commands.

Pros

  • Consistent mailbox backups
  • Consistent OneDrive backups
  • Consistent SharePoint backups

Cons

  • More scheduling options for backups
  • Better backup job alerts
  • Better reporting
  • We replaced a more expensive option, with fewer features
  • We can recover email messages after the Microsoft retention policy has deleted them
  • We can recover OneDrive and SharePoint files after the Microsoft retention policy has deleted them
All data that a business relies on should be backed up - this includes data hosted off-premises, and data in Microsoft 365 is no different. If you were hosting Exchange or SharePoint on-premises, you would backup these servers, so why would it be different when the servers are hosted by someone else?

We decided on using Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 because Veeam is the most trusted name in backups, and I've been a happy Veeam user for over 14 years, ever since they supported Hyper-V. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 was also the most cost-effective product that we were considering.
All of the features that are available in Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 are easy to understand and easy to use. Every time I interact with a feature in Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 it behaves just like I expect it to.

With that said, I would appreciate more options for scheduling, reporting, and alerting.
Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 has given us complete control and access to our data, and we're able to recover it if it is lost, accidentally deleted or maliciously
attacked.

With that said, "quickly" is subjective. Obviously, recovering a 50 GB mailbox will take a while - Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 has to prepare the mailbox for download from the Azure storage, then I have to actually download it. At 100 Mbps, 50 GB will take about 70 minutes to download, so you shouldn't expect to get a whole mailbox quickly.

However, I've found Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 most useful when I've needed to recover just one, or a few files or messages - I haven't measured this to get an exact duration, but it has taken less than 10 minutes each time. It's very easy to search someone's mailbox or OneDrive to retrieve the file or message that needs to be recovered.
The broad variety of restore options included with Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 has been extremely appreciated. The ability to restore to Office 365 or on-premises, restore to a file’s original location, attach/.zip and send, export as a .pst, etc. has been invaluable. I find that I've used the option I use most often has been to download the file directly from the Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 console.
I like that I can restore OneDrive files after a user has deleted them. Normally, Microsoft keeps the files in the recycle bin for a certain period of time, but I go straight to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 for restoration, even if it was deleted just two days ago. The same can be said for SharePoint files and email messages. I find that Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is easier to use than the Microsoft 365 recycle bin.

Also, once the file is no longer in the recycle bin, Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is the only option for restoring the file.
Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is simpler to use then each alternative I've tried. Besides Synology, it's also the most cost effective. I also appreciate Veeam includes pricing on their website so I don't have to fill out a form or call someone. I don't like having to wait for a sales team to get back to me, and I don't want to have to deal with them after I decided on another product.
Veeam Data Cloud support was quick to respond and answered the question I had. They get a 9/10, instead of 10/10 because I had to go through an additional step to be able to open support requests that I think shouldn't have been necessary. I'm able to login to the Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 console as an administrator, but I had to be allowed support access in my.veeam.com, rather than having a support request option built-in to the Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 console.
Any admin in Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 should be allowed to open support requests, and admins should also be able to delegate the ability to other Veeam Data Cloud users.

Do you think Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 again?

Yes

Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is well suited for anyone using Microsoft 365 for email, OneDrive, and/or Sharepoint. Microsoft offers backup solutions, but their clunky, hard to use, and expensive, not to mention the fact that Microsoft likes to move features around to different admin consoles or different locations in the same admin console.

Because of the limited scheduling options, Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 may not be well suited for large enterprises - a backup job from a previous day might still be running when it's supposed to start again, but the new job will not run until the previous job is complete.
