Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Currently using the product to back up my Office 365 environment. Emails, SharePoint, Teams, etc. The product addresses the need to back up my data, because Microsoft does not back up your data.

Pros

Email backups.
SharePoint backups.

Cons

I would like the option to remove users from the backup and set them to an alternate storage location/ archive location. Currently, my backups are at 7 TB, and I would like to segment out data with lower data retention requirements.

Return on Investment

Positive impact on the amount of time it takes me to reference emails from the backups. Users ask for the email addresses of former employees. I can find it quickly and export the media to the users.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We manage over 5 Microsoft 365/Azure tenants, Veeam made it very easy for us to setup Data Clouds for each tenant and manage them easily. We're able to quickly and easily restore deleted files, missing emails, and entire Azure VMs with a few clicks. This has given our users a level of comfort that they had lacked for years, knowing their files and emails are safe should something happen.

Pros

Extremely easy to setup, starting the backup process for an entire Microsoft tenant took minutes.
Backup restores are simple and quick.
The layout of the interface is easy to understand and makes every step straightforward.

Cons

Some of the wording on some of the features could use some clarification.
The interface could use some basic first time user tutorials to ease users in a little better.
The on prem version of Veeam seems to have more features in general, so migrating more of those features over to Data Cloud would be welcome.

Return on Investment

We had an incident where an employee was terminated and deleted their entire mailbox and cleared the deleted folder before we could disable the account. We had the entire mailbox restored in minutes thanks to Veeam.
We're in the process of migrating data from an old SQL 98 VM and we used the disk restore function to restore the back of the VM to a new VM, the process took no time at all.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 as our backup for OneDrive, Outlook, etc. It provides for us a better solution and extended time frame for backup and file recovery than the standard 30-90 days of M365 policies, along with peace of mind in case of account takeovers and ransomware attacks. We have around 80 users/mailboxes covered through this service, along with over 30 SharePoint/Teams sites.

Pros

Easy set up and policies.
Reporting that is understable.
Full auditing of access.

Cons

Would love for reports to be viewable from emails but understand the security risks behind that.

Return on Investment

It has allowed us to refine our data protection policies and practices.
Clearer policies and practices allows our employees to work with peace of mind.
Allows our IT dept to work and remediate issues and restore file access faster, allowing us to focus on different areas of concern.

We faced the challenge of backing up our Microsoft cloud services; to address this, we acquired Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 to back up our email, Teams conversations, and SharePoint data. It proved to be a very easy solution to implement: we began with a proof of concept, subsequently purchased 10 licenses, and later increased that number to 40.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

eiNetwork uses Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 to protect Microsoft 365 applications, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Entra ID. Native Microsoft only utilizes retention policies. This solution can be acceptable for restoring an individual user account. In the case of a ransomware attack, where the entire tenant needs restored, this is not a viable solution. Microsoft M365 backup capabilities were used previously at approximately the same cost. Microsoft M365 does not include the capability to back up Entra ID, so an additional solution is needed. Also, Microsoft backups cannot backup Teams. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 includes Entra ID and Teams, making it a complete, one-stop solution.

Pros

Allows for granular restore capabilities.
Comprehensive Microsoft 365 Coverage.
Predictable pricing. Microsoft pricing is "Pay as you go" based on utilization, which undoubtedly will increase as the tenant grows over time. Veeam is based on per-user.
Can select which location your data is stored, if you choose.

Cons

Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 touts "fast" backup and restore capabilities. Our initial backup took several weeks to complete.
You have to configure to receive outage notifications. Before doing this we only received notifications that the backups had failed.
Documentation can be a bit confusing.

Return on Investment

Costs are predictable compared to the Microsoft M365 backup solution.
Peace of mind in knowing our user's data is protected.
