Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We utilize Veeam to protect around 60 virtual systems and a few physical hosts. Probably the best feature we use is their ability to perform a sandboxed restore of systems for disaster recovery testing. We utilize the platform to spin to immutable tape as well as spin a copy off to Azure as well.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Sandbox recovery for validation is simple
- Flexibility of backup targets
- UI could use some work in finding features, etc.
- Immutable backup requires a new setup of a backup target, can't convert.

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?
Yes
We have over 50 virtual systems and a handful of physical systems. Our growth has been up and down and is inline with what we thought the use case would be.
- Veeam has allowed us to take control of our DR testing process instead of relying on an MSP.
- We have had a fairly predictable expenditure.
We chose Veeam primarily as an alternative to the Carbonite product that our MSP used for managing our backups. Once we shifted away from that MSP, we looked for a solution that would be easy to manage in-house and Veeam fit the bill. There is not a lot of overhead or maintenance for us internally to maintain the platform, which is great.
We have Azure as a target to store a copy of our backups, which is great because it gives us an off-site target. We are not using Veeam currently to protect any cloud workloads themselves.
We do use Veeam to manage our fileservers for individual file-level restores. It has proven quick and easy.
