Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We have been using Veeam for almost 10 years. We use Veeam to write our daily, weekly, monthly backups to an ExaGrid backup appliance.
Pros
- Backups
- Restores
- Communication of failures
Cons
- Upgrades are too large, 13 GBs in size.
- I miss not picking up a phone and calling them. Instead you have to submit a ticket and wait for a call-back.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- NAS filers
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
We have about 70 Virtual servers that are backed up by Veeam.
- The backups and restores work, enough said.
Previous backup platform was buggy and I wasn't sure if the restores would work.
We don't use Cloud servers, thus we dont use Veeam to back them up.
We are not using NAS filers.
I think Veeam has an awesome product. The backups and restores work, that should be their slogan. The upgrade process is tedious and I dread them. But once the software is installed, knowing the backups will restore is what Veeam does best.
