Overall Satisfaction with Vista by Viewpoint

Vista is our company wide ERP. We utilize almost all the modules of the core product such as Accounting, HR, Job Cost, Project Management and many others. In addition we have purchased several of the add-on integrated solutions to compliment the product such as Team, HR Management, Field Management and cloud hosting in the VEC environment. Through Vista and the add-ons almost every person in the company uses it daily or weekly.
  • Job Cost module is strong, many controls yet still user friendly and functional.
  • Certified payroll is done particularly well.
  • The cloud hosting solution has been a positive experience, eliminating much of our on-premise cost and headache.
  • PO module can be very 'sensitive' and problems/issues are hard to resolve.
  • 2-way communication with add-on solutions versus 1-way, can create out of sync data between Team and Vista PM.
  • Work Centers are horribly clunky and customization of views and grids doesn't work, especially for Service.
  • Bringing all of the project management functions into a single consolidated platform has been good.
  • The robust HR program with documentation of employee data as well as accidents, reviews, training, skills etc. has eliminated 3 offline spreadsheets.
  • VEC has lowered our overall IT spend.
ProContractor at the time was not ready to handle a company of our size, we have since reduced in size, but prior to the acquisition by ViewPoint ProContractor was a very unstable solution.

Do you think Viewpoint Vista delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Viewpoint Vista's feature set?

Yes

Did Viewpoint Vista live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Viewpoint Vista go as expected?

No

Would you buy Viewpoint Vista again?

Yes

Construction is obviously the target industry and I think it would be best suited for larger organizations with a solid IT and Accounting team of 4-6 at least. We have only 2 accounting team members and they struggle to keep up with the product, updates and features all the while doing their day to day work.

Using Vista by Viewpoint

20 - Finance, Project Management and Service Management
In depth knowledge of product modules/programs
  • General accounting
  • Job cost
  • Service Management
  • Cost to completes and forecasts - most solutions don't do this well
  • Purchasing control
  • Inventory management
  • Small tool tracking
We are committed and invested

Evaluating Vista by Viewpoint and Competitors

Yes - Maxwell Pro Contractor - we deployed that solution for less than 1 year, was not ready for a contractor at our scale.
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
We fell into Vista, Viewpoint had recently acquired Maxwell and seeing how disappointed we were they offered to migrate us to Vista, we are happy where we landed.
Be more focused on a true "internet" ready solution

Vista by Viewpoint Implementation

We should have prepared and spent more.
  • Third-party professional services
Can't recall
Yes - We first tried to do it on our own, major failure, the implementer came in a year later and really helped get us on track
Change management was minimal - Change is always hard, but honestly our prior solution was so bad most folks were excited
  • Cost of customizations
  • Not enough time for all the training

Vista by Viewpoint Support

Sometimes can be very slow and often the answer is "buy a customization." Too many bugs go unresolved, i.e. Service Work Center. I think support has a lot of room to improve.
ProsCons
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Support understands my problem
Support cares about my success
Difficult to get immediate help
No, was not aware there are levels of support...
Yes - It was resolved, timely would not be how I would describe it
There had been a lingering issue with adjusting columns in a Work Center. It had been YEARS old and never seemed to get much traction. On an unrelated issue I was connected with a support tech, I mentioned this problem and he worked diligently for 3 weeks with me to make sure the issue was floated to the top of the repair list and in the next release the years old problem was FINALLY fixed.

Using Vista by Viewpoint

Much better than our original legacy platform, but still can be cumbersome and fragmented at times.
ProsCons
Like to use
Well integrated
Consistent
Feel confident using
Unnecessarily complex
Difficult to use
Requires technical support
Slow to learn
Lots to learn
  • Cost to completes
  • Job budget updates
  • Payroll
  • Purchasing
  • Inventory and material setup
  • Financial statements
Yes - You can login to VEC through any browser, mobile or not... I guess in a pinch if you needed something you could do it, but I don't see any real value in Vista on a mobile device. The integrated solutions for Team and HR Management are better on mobile than Vista
