Overall Satisfaction with Vultr

i use Vultr to run web servers. Vultr servers are more powerful than other options (better performing) at a better price. the servers are usually servers running ubuntu, with nginx, mysql, and php software. i have found Vultr to be extremely reliable for our use case and have migrated many of our workloads to the platform.

Pros

  • great price
  • great performance
  • excellent api

Cons

  • control panel isn't great compared to DO
  • kubernetes can improve with monitoring
  • better api performance - was slow/problematic with k8s
  • saved me money
  • gave better performing infrastructure
  • better region availability than others
i think the model is the standard. most developers like myself understand we have to pay for performance. it's good to have less-performant options for quick testing and development when production capability is not needed. more important, it's good to know we can scale to meet future demands and grow.
i was able to better serve my clients across the united states by utilizing Vultr's global network. with clients spread out all over the united states, i was able to deploy servers closer to them, which is critical in live streaming and media services like ours. clients reported fast load times and quick connection times.
i was able to better position resources near our customers and their audiences.
Digital ocean is not an option. I find digital ocean's platform to feel better polished (even if it is not actually). while Vultr has a lot of promise, and definitely delivers, it still feels like an upstart where digital ocean feels more established. this was fine for a while, but some issues added up and i made the move back for our kubernetes offering.

Do you think Vultr delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Vultr's feature set?

Yes

Did Vultr live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Vultr go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Vultr again?

Yes

i think Vultr is great for running web servers and databases in multiple regions. Vultr by far has the best selection of region availability. my experience with kubernetes was spotty. while the servers were better, the control panel was not, and I had problems with the API responding correctly / hanging. by far the biggest mark i have against Vultr is availability. if you're going to offer kubernetes, you have to have massive server availability. too many times i had to figure out alternative solutions because the servers we needed weren't available during our peak times, and it's why i moved back to DO.
