Overall Satisfaction with Watchguard Endpoint Security

We recently switched to Watchguard Endpoint Security from a competitors product - and are still learning the complete feature-set offered. That said, we have been Watchguard Firewalls for over a decade. The integration with the Watchguard authentication client installed on all of our endpoints helps with client/device information, as well as ALL of the traffic coming and going from their device. All presented in a nice - easily digestible GUI that can also be shared with upper management and non-IT folks. Even they can understand it!

Pros

  • Client Hardware Visibility - You can see what Windows updates/patches they are missing, the last time they were online, traffic to and from their device etc.
  • Device isolation. Once a threat actor or file is discovered, you can immediately quarantine the device to prevent the exporting of data/information to the threat actor
  • Integrates with our existing Watchguard Firewall hardware - so that the EDR feature-set works alongside the network protection as well
  • GUI is fantastic - very easy to see client hardware insights, current active threats or PUA, and helps you triage various issues depending on level of risk associated with each.

Cons

  • Getting an initial quote took some time. Unsure if that was a problem with our reseller - or lack of response from Watchguard.
  • EDU pricing was available, but wasn't as substantial of a discounted rate than the competitor that we switched from. Was still fully E-Rate eligible, though!
  • We are already seeing a slight cost-savings from the competitor product we moved from. But are still only a few months in.
  • Our helpdesk techs are saving tons of time and wear and tear on their vehicles not having to drive out to remote off-site locations to support staff devices. Windows Patch-Management being included in this suite is well-worth the cost alone - for our district.
  • Being able to pull up the main dashboard in a meeting with our admin team and show them what staff are doing on their devices via web logs has been a huge help as well. We don't want to micromanage our staff - but we also don't want them needlessly letting YouTube run their classrooms each day, either.
We did! We worked with CDW-G through the purchase process - but implemented everything ourselves. CDW was great - just took a bit to get an accurate quote, which I'm unsure was held up by CDW or Watchguard, initially.
Huge value. We had been so used to our previous EDR software, that we didn't know how many more features could be available to us if we switched. Having more device control has been the biggest improvement for myself and my team. Setting up email alerts for malware/anti-virus issues has been huge as well. It allows us to be much more proactive in our response times.
This was kind of our first major step into the Watchguard Cloud environment. I have visibility enabled for our firewalls in the cloud - but have no moved them to management in the cloud, as I do NOT want to recreate all of my firewall policies from scratch in order to do so. That said, when the time comes and we do move our management to the cloud, I believe the integration will be even better than it already is. Having numerous products under the same "single pane of glass" certainly makes for easier management and less time wasted in the long run.
We didn't spend much time looking into Symantec - but it was the software of choice for the district before I joined. That said, we were pretty easily talked into Watchguard Endpoint Security as we were already in the Watchguard world of products. Moving to their EDR just seemed to make sense for our organization

Do you think Watchguard Endpoint Security delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Watchguard Endpoint Security's feature set?

Yes

Did Watchguard Endpoint Security live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Watchguard Endpoint Security go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Watchguard Endpoint Security again?

Yes

I would absolutely recommend Watchguard Endpoint Security to a colleague - as there's only four of us on the team in the entire district. The additional client insights have been invaluable to us. We had, historically, been doing Windows updates A. whenever a device was turned in with issues, or B. each Summer during device turn in. We can now control those updates with this software - pushing Windows patches to necessarily clients with the push of a button. This has saved us COUNTLESS hours of driving or directing staff to update themselves (and then ignoring us). We do have a remote desktop client that we have utilized in the past, but updating during the day is cumbersome for teachers. Watchguard Endpoint Security has now given us more control over our devices - as well as better protection from threats as well.
