Overall Satisfaction with Zscaler Internet Access

We were looking for an SSE solution to have some scalability and potentially remove on premises firewalls. With a little over 30 locations Zscaler Internet Access was brought in to provide that frame of access and attempt to make it so that the home user experience matched the on site experience.

Pros

  • Use of URLs which is primarily what users are utilizing when going external
  • NRDs being a category that you can work with
  • Isolation Browser works fairly well with minimal interruption.

Cons

  • The logs feel kind of lack luster
  • When issues are arising with SSL Inspection, logs show everything working despite end user experience
  • Could use some kind of global find functionality or something that would allow you to search the entire configuration for matching URLs and the like
  • Is making it so we will potentially not have to replace some physical firewalls saving time and money on renewals.
  • Offering better User Experience for those who travel
  • Does sometimes prove to be an issue with newer websites.
When it works it's slick in that regard as it's ZCC is an easy lightweight app that doesn't have issues. However troubleshooting Zscaler Internet Access can be complicated as the logs don't always have the information right in front of you and typically the next step is a PCAP which used to be a last resort.
Zscaler Internet Access is most akin to ZPA - we bought both at the same time to handle all traffic internally and externally. In terms of quality - I would make the statement that Zscaler Internet Access is a simpler product but that's also cause there are no App Connectors involved in that process.

SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM), HPE Greenlake, Aruba ClearPass
Zscaler Internet Access is effectively a cloud firewall. It thrives best for traveling users that need a consistent experience as the multiple Service Edges around the world will help reduce the bottleneck and latency of VPNs hosted on firewalls. Also reduces the cost to spin up small locations that wouldn't necessarily need a firewall on site for Zonal traffic (this rings true for any SSE product). However troubleshooting this tool is a bit of a beast as previously mentioned - the logs are pretty minimal and the first reaction after perusing logs is typically to get a pcap file (which used to be a last resort for Network Engineers).
