Reviews
(1-5 of 5)Clarizen - A PMO's Best Friend
- A lack of project metrics, which led to “guesswork” on behalf of project managers and the PMO
- Weak or non-existent effort data, which made it impossible to accurately track time spent on projects
- An absence of work notes -- the PMO had no idea what was going on outside of weekly project meetings
- Sciforma was only being used by PMO staff and not by project teams
- Resource Utilization, Considering prior to using Clarizen resource utilization was guesswork on the part of the Project Manager I would have to say having any realistic visibility much less the excellent level Clarizen provides is only to be said as exceptional.
- Clarizen API, We made heavy use of the API integrating Clarizen with two core systems already in use at TCiCT. We integrated actual effort with Service-Now and our homegrown time management software.
- Project Reporting, Clarizen provides an excellent built in reporting tool that as of late is only getting better with the ability to create custom dashboards directly through the software. Providing management with well laid out project metric data is as important as keeping your project on schedule.
- Honestly I am so impressed with what Clarizen can do I haven't had time to stop and think about what it doesn't. If I had to pick something I would say it could provide a graphical interface for simple workflow rules.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Clarizen implemented in many different ways by many different organizations. I attended an event where we received presentations from a few organizations and I was blown away at the vast differences in implementations. Clarizen is not a one size fits all. Clarizen is a "How can we fit you" company. There is one key question to ask during a selection process. What are my requirements? Clarizen will meet them, will others? Here were our key requirements (I fully expect yours to be different):
- Robust API tool set to connect with existing technologies
- Versatile in order to fit in the “middle” of TCiCT’s environment
- Capture project metrics – particularly effort/time tracking
- Give PMO insights into project costs and actual resource utilization
- Store and organize work notes
- Enable ongoing, real-time project visibility
- Accessible by all necessary team members, not just PMO staff
- User friendly to avoid triggering change management issues
- This question is best asked to a private sector user.

Clarizen Review
- Allows you to generate projects for any accounts that you're working with and mark each task complete as they are finished.
- Allows you to create templates for specific product offerings to be re-used when a new project for the product begins.
- Allows you to track time spent on a project (this can be done either at the project or the task level)
- Allows you to generate status reports that will be e-mailed to you and then you can edit and forward to the client/team members
- Allows you to generate customized reports
- I would like to see an improved Issues Log that is more easily maintainable for each project.
- I would like to see the roadmap that can be shared with a client be formatted more like a high level project plan
- Greater task tracking
- All in one product allowing all of the PM's to track everything in one application
- Ease of use
- Great resource time tracking
- Don't know
- Time tracking
- Project task tracking
- Status update generation
- Logging Issues

Clarizen, Try It You Will Love It!
- Easy to track time in projects and see what is going on from a high level.
- I'm not completely satisfied with the reporting. I have access to the Excel plug-in, but system users run ad-hoc reports directly in Clarizen. The issue is that the tables are not relational. For example, if someone wants to run a project comparing project variables to timesheets, they have to build pivot tables which is daunting for many users. Ideally, we would have a company wide reporting infrastructure that we could use in conjunction with Clarizen and we are starting to look into acquiring an appropriate data analytics / visualization tool.
- The Clarizen system comes with some pre-set flags that are based on industry benchmarks. While these can be useful, they do not always apply, and I wish we could turn them or at least modify them to meet our own criteria. For example, red flags sometimes get generated if a budget is off track or a project is a day late. But these are often not real issues and we would like to be able to clear the red flags or set our own thresholds.
- We were able to sail through our audits with ease and quick resolve based on having all the information in one place - in Clarizen.
- Project Management.
- Portfolio Management.
- Time Tracking.
There were many different reasons why we chose Clarizen but ease of use, functionality and price and adaptability were our top reasons.
- Implemented in-house
- Online training
- Self-taught
- An, as yet, unnamed reporting tool. We are looking at purchasing a company wide analytics / reporting tool which we would plug into multiple data sources (Cisco, Mozy, NexCom Mobility) including Clarizen.
Integration is the Achilles Heel.
- They do a good job of project management, time tracking. They do very well what their core purpose is
- It is easy to configure, intuitive. The customization process is in some ways better than Salesforce.com. It has a great UI.
- They are a great group of people. They have sent people on site. They are a great company to work with.
- Integration – any SAAS provider has to have seamless integration in mind. They have a lot of work to do, but they are getting there. The amount of development required has been very intensive to get it to work
- Clarizen can only accept data imports (data loads) from MS Project – because of that we couldn’t import data from Basecamp. That means we have had to continue to use Basecamp in parallel to finish those projects.
- Only accepting MS project for imports is a huge oversight
- Communication with 3rd parties e.g. customers – Basecamp does that much better.
- They are based in Israel, so that presents a few challenges like you cannot access on Fridays (Saturday in Israel). They now have opened a small office in San Francisco to alleviate this problem
- It is too early to tell. We just officially launched on 8/1. We were doing a pilot before hand. The pilot group have been in it since May.
- Time tracking.
- Understanding how much does a customer cost.
- Tracking what products and features have gone live.
- Technical staff backlog.
- Resourcing teams – all the way from manager to individuals. Teams are automatically assigned based upon criteria we establish.
