Arista 7000 series vs. Cisco Catalyst IE9300 Rugged Series Switches

Core and data center applications are the strengths of Arista products. The distribution layer is also a good fit. For the access layer, it would be more of a niche product.

As the Cisco Catalyst IE9300 Rugged Series Switches do not come with a fan, it is really good for the environment that requires quietness, as these switches are super quiet, not even with any air flow noise. Of course, if you are going to deploy it to a hot, humid environment, that's a no brainer. Plus, those switches have some built-in POE ports that make them quite handy for connecting PoE CCTV cameras and VoIP phones

• The 7304's along side our core network design has provided 100% uptime during the 5 years of deployment.
• The multi-chassis LAG has provided near 100% connectivity to the distribution and access switches.
• Very low maintenance attention is needed.

• First of all, if I encounter something, it's really easy for me to find an answer from Google. That's because that's a very famous company, lots of people using that. And for example, what if we have a bot or something? Hard questions, hard problems. It's really easy to find out from the outside world because everybody use it.

• The 7304's lack a graceful non-intrusive upgrade method even though they are dual supervisor.
• I would like to see more integration with Aruba's ClearPass and Airwave products.

I have used the Catalyst 6500 series in the past. From my point of view, the Arista surpasses the Catalyst on just about every front. Originally we were planning on implementing the Nexus 7000/7700 series switches for our core. Though a little more feature rich, it did not provide features we needed that the Arista did. The Nexus also was a confusing and complex platform to work with. Also, the Nexus was a significantly more expensive solution. Although very happy with the Arista switches we may evaluate the Aruba HPE 8400 chassis-based switches along with Arista switches in the future.

Compared to the Cisco Industrial Ethernet switch IE2000, those Catalyst Industrial IE9300 switches provide high port density, 24 ports vs 8 ports on the Cisco Industrial Ethernet switch IE2000, PoE functions with high PoE budget without any external power injectors, more flexible with the uplink ports (4x1GSFPs), can be fibered up, and of course in that case, higher throughput

• Implementation was quick and easy due to the simple standards-based configuration.
