Cakemail

If you're managing a large email campaign, with 500+ subscribers, Cakemail is a wonderful service that can help anyone, with any level of experience – get their message out there. It has a useful interface, stimulates solid workflow, and cuts down on all the time and development that goes into coding an email campaign. Basically any level of email campaign, Cakemail is great for that

ConvertKit

It is perfect for artists and content creators. It is perfect for service based providers who want to house their potential leads. Entry level entrepreneurs can also benefit. It is not an all in one type of platform, but it is useful for list building and setting up automation. If you have less than 1K subscribers, this is the route to go until you need to use automation. Then, just feel free to upgrade.

Pros

Cakemail

  • Managing my contacts and campaigns has given me fantastic results and has been really easy through Cakemail's interface.
  • Customer support is amazing – if you have a problem with anything, they're always available to help.
  • Their flexible design tools are very easy to manage – there's really no learning curve which is nice.

ConvertKit

  • Emails landing in subscribers inbox.
  • Free mailing address that customers can use.
  • Robust tagging system for managing funnels and targeting users with optimized emails.
  • Broad integrations available for other platforms and optin form plugins.

Cons

Cakemail

  • An external package – like PHP support – Cake's component doesn't have that.
  • I'd like to be able to view my user click rate and click frequency at the same time, to be able to compare it – they don't offer that.
  • There's always room for improvement – but what Cakemail does well, it does very, very well.

ConvertKit

  • When I first started using ConvertKit, I found it hard to create a landing page. I am pretty technical but when I had to customize my page using HTML, I got lost. I thought I could get up and running within an hour (build the page, create the list, and set up automation), but I soon realized I had to upgrade to use automation and setting up took me more than 3 hours. The learning curve had me stuck. I got frustrated and reached out to support.
  • ConvertKit is not for a non-tech person. There are not enough templates to get up and running within an hour.
  • ConvertKit is simply email marketing and landing pages for list building. It could offer a little more.
  • The analytics can be a bit more in depth.

Alternatives Considered

Cakemail

I use MailChimp a lot, and to be honest, both are great programs. Should you go with either of these, you will not be disappointed. I'm just a little biased because I just started using Cakemail, and I fell in love with the program. It's really solid and they're always updating it

Return on Investment

Cakemail

  • Cakemail has given us a pretty positive response rate...we're always open to trying new technologies, but Cakemail has shown our subscriber clicks rise quite frequently in the last few campaigns we've sent out.

ConvertKit

  • Incremental traffic generation from a reliable source.
  • High-converting leads from sales funnels.
