Camunda Platform vs ConceptDraw PROJECT

For clients with a need for mission-critical business applications, Camunda brings great process tech to those applications. For clients with good development capabilities, Camunda enables those developers to design around processes, instead of designing everything as a CRUD application that ignores processes. It's a great product for process purists and development purists, but it has appeal beyond these core groups. Camunda also provides good tools for having visibility into how the product works, which is also very valuable.

Getting started - using the Gantt chart to enter tasks in any order and then using those tasks to initially define a MindMap to further explore alternative dependencies. The alternative works better when initiating a project with significant unknowns.

Integration with ConceptDraw Mindmap makes work breakdown very easy.
We have cross-functional teams where team members often work on different projects in parallel. The multi project management feature has been a blessing over these years.
Another import feature is the availability of many different predefined report generation templates that made it very easy to communicate different aspects of the project to different stakeholders.

Cons

Camunda expects that you will develop your own user interfaces. This is either a benefit or a barrier depending on your perspective on packaged UI.
As an open source vendor, Camunda is under-covered in analyst reports.

Alternatives Considered

Lacks good documentation. Training and documentation is geared towards those who are already technically adept. Does not have as many data integrations as other full fledged products. Paid version of Camunda is not as fully fledged as other products.

ConceptDraw has a much simpler licensing and pricing model. Perpetual license and ability to use in offline mode was an important criteria for us. Perfect bundle for small and medium business.

Freeware makes testing and utilizing Camunda a cost-effective solution
High level of difficulty in implementation may require a lot more time and effort than normally expected. (2-3x more effort than other paid and fully featured solutions)
