Centrify / Idaptive (discontinued, superseded by Idira Identity Platform) vs. Symantec VIP

Centrify is a great solution for anyone looking to start using Office 365. It is also a great solution for anyone wanting to provide their users with an SSO solution using OAUTH, Federation, or SAML for any hosted service. If you are looking to use Centrify for MDM but you aren't using a hosted/hybrid email solution such as Office 365, there are better on-premise options that should be explored.

Symantec VIP is best suited in environments where you need two factor authentication. As explained before, Symantec VIP is super easy to use and manage for our users across our entire organization. If you have your users using a virtual private network, Symantec VIP is the way to go; no doubt about it!

• User provisioning is accurate, effective, and fully customizable.
• Custom configuration of applications for SSO and provisioning is easy using fully customizable scripts to address your exact need.
• The user interface is clean and easy to navigate.
• Support is helpful and prompt.

• The UI is intuitive and simple to use and navigate. When generating a secure token to be used for VPN access, all the navigation is clear and intuitive. There is no confusion when our users use Symantec VIP.
• Every generated token expires after 30-60 seconds, thus providing an extra layer of security and reducing any risk of someone re-using a token or pin to gain unauthorized access into our system.
• The app is super responsive and has no lag and little to no latency. Everything loads quickly and is super speedy.
• Our department can opt for a 6 digit code which we can use while logging in on different sites and SSO access can be easily set up and achieved with this tool.

• Occasionally, I get logged out of Gmail, sometimes in the middle of an email. I'm not sure why it happens, but I think it has something to do with timing out. Which is strange because I'm on email all day. Not sure why.

• when setting a token to a phone call, the phone calls often take a minute + to call the user.
• When Symantec's VIP app is removed or reinstalled on a phone, the credential ID will change, and that dictates a call to the helpdesk to allow the user access.
• Temporary security codes while handy, must be set to expire immediately to stay secure.

Centrify is central to creating efficiency and safety for our clients and internally. To remove it would cause a massive disturbance in the lives of our employees and our clients.

The support staff thus far has been very helpful. At times I feel they are driving the process forward without my intervention or constant reminder, which is nice to have in a company for a change. Most support seems to be a hassle but so far Centrify appears to treat your project as their own project.

Centrify offered us more for our money by being more than just an SSO platform. There were several other features included such as MDM and MFA. This started other initiatives for us and felt the other solutions we evaluated would not have been able to provide.

The Symantec VIP solution has a more easy implementation process, which makes implementation faster. The Prove Of Concept of the solution presents the best results compared with Duo. The final price charged was cheaper. Consultants that participate in the process get show to us in a more clear manner all scenarios where we can use the Symantec VIP.

• Centrify has made the job of the administrator easier by allowing us to manage SSO and MDM all in one.
• Centrify has made it easy for the end user by using SSO and not having to remember their passwords for multiple applications, networks, etc.
• Centrify has made it easy for an end user to enroll their own device which in return adds their device to the corporate network and sets up corporate email on their device.

• It was as easy to implement and manage as promised, so that definitely saved us time and frustration.
• It allowed us to improve on our existing PHI and PII security measures.
• Allowing secure access from remote locations, especially smart phones, was a huge plus.
